Bon Voyage

So after much thought and deliberation, I have decided to return to Seattle early. Reasons are many, but the biggest one is that I'm just not finding my place here in the community (or lack of community). I will be returning home on June 17th in the evening, just in time for my birthday on the 24th. Before I leave I plan on travelling to the Isla de Ometepe to see the volcanoes and to Corn Island for some carribean scuba diving. I'm looking forward to being home, but I know I'll miss baby Maya and the other monkeys, as well as the beautiful sunsets. See you soon!

Beer for Beans

We recently recieved a phone call from a nearby orphanage that is having trouble feeding the children. Dr. Jim decided to host an event that will raise money and food donations for them. This event will be held on June 7th at the Bambu Beach Club here in San Juan. Everyone who brings 10 pounds, 10 cans or 10 dollars can get in for free beer and discounted food. We will also be holding a raffle for local restaurant gift certificates and a Delta Airlines plane ticket from Nicaragua to the USA.

I am asking that if you can spare $10 or $20, please do so. It broke my heart to find out that there were children who could not get enough to eat. If you can, please give all donations to my mom, Kristy, and she will deposit the money into my account where I can extract it here in Nicaragua and put it towards the cause.

Another SCUBA diving adventure...

I went SCUBA diving again yesterday and although the visibility wasn't great it was the best wildlife I've seen yet. I was fortunate enough to see a beautiful purple-brown seahorse similar to this one:
We saw a baracuda that was about five feet long!

This is a spotted eagle ray. The one we saw was probably four or five feed across and was absolutely beautiful.
We also saw two octopuses similar to this one. They weren't as impressive as this one because they were hiding in their holes, but this is the kind that they were:

Art in the Park Event Photos

These pictures are of the annual art fair I coordinated on April 19th. We had face painting, mask making, jewelry making and water color classes for the kids. We also raffled off 23 bikes to the local children, three of which were donated by friends and family back home. The other aspect of the art fair was the vendors. This link will show you more pictures: http://www.pbase.com/danpolley/artinpark2008
